Wassu in the International Seminar about sociocultural and legal aspects of FGM/C the 3rd and the 4th February in Madrid
Wassu Foundation co-organized and participated in the International Seminar “MAP FGM/C: Sociocultural and legal aspects of FGM/C. Transnational Experiences of prevention and protection” together with the Observatory of Gender Equality of the Rey Juan Carlos University, in the frame of a European project.
Adriana Kaplan made an anthropological approach of the practice, which lead to talk about prevention and protection policies on FGM/C in Europe, Africa and Spain. Kemo Fatty (trainer at Wassu Gambia Kafo NGO) presented the applied research to knowledge transfer in The Gambia, explaining the results and the impact of the project implemented in the country.
Nora Salas (coordinator of Wassu Foundation) presented the Wassu methodology. She focused on the assessment to create programs for the attention and prevention of FGM/C in different towns. Mª Teresa Martín (technician of the Local Plan for the social inclusions in the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet) explained the experience of implementing one of this programmes assessed by Wassu in the city. Aina Mangas (member of the research group IGPS/HTP and technician of Public Health in the City Council of Badalona) critically analysed the type of approach given in Catalonia to FGM/C.
