Audiovisual creativity to raise awareness about FGM/C

On numerous occasions, artistic productions have contributed to make visible and confronting social problems and this time, it took the side of the prevention of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C). With a technique that imitates shadow theater and a duration of three minutes, the video of the Multisectoral Academic Program to prevent and combat Female Genital Mutilation (MAP-FGM) was premiered during the III International Congress in Lisbon at the end of September and was attended by the director of the film, Pedro Neto.

The animated short film was produced by a group of young artists, based on a script written by members of the MAP-FGM project team. The aim is to raise awareness of the need to insert FGM/C into the academic curriculum of future professionals of medicine, nursing, law, social work, education, journalism, gender studies, anthropology and international cooperation, to prevent and protect women and girls at risk of or with FGM/C, residing in European countries.
